19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks the player's initial title following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court since spring of that year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

The player's defensive strategy and frequent emotional displays on court had prompted observers to wonder if his capacity to play at the top level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour victory, took control to force a final set.

He saved four early chances in a competitive third set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
